New York Period (1932–1940)
Following a brief transitional period in the southern United States, the artist relocated to New York, where his work evolved and transformed remarkably. Early pieces from this period feature delicate, luminous surfaces, almost invisible brushwork, and transparent tones. Over time, his palette darkened to reflect the urban landscape of New York, while his output grew to include abstracted street scenes, portraits, and nude studies in gouache and pastel, marking a transition from realism to early abstraction.
